US Strike Warning

Possible US East Coast Longshoreman Strike

Dear Valued IFS Client,

Longshoreman on the East and Gulf Coasts of the United States are threatening to strike over wages and automation.  (For an article on the situation, please see this link to Forbes.com.)

If the strike actually takes place, IFS needs you, our valued client to be aware that:

  • Ocean Import:  The strike may require shipments normally arriving at East or Gulf Coast ports to be rerouted to West Coast ports.  This may cause delays in transit time, so please plan your overseas import orders accordingly.  This includes allowing for longer transit times and also for extra expenses for road moves from West Coast ports.
  • Ocean Export:  The strike may  require shipments leaving from East and Gulf Coast US ports to be send out from US West Coast ports.  Please plan your export shipments accordingly.  This includes allowing for longer transit times and also for extra expenses for road moves to West Coast ports.

Unfortunately, some carriers and terminal operators may try and profit from the delays.  IFS will do everything in our power to work with broker organizations and the US Government to keep carriers and terminal operators form charging unreasonable amounts for demurrage, detention, storage, chassis, etc. Please be prepared for increases in these charges as some increase will probably be unavoidable.

If you have any questions regarding this situation, please call IFS at 650-692-1632 or email us at info@ifsworldwidelogistics.com.

Remember, IFS is here to help you with all of your logistics needs!
